Changes coming to NJ driver's license, renewal process

A new license design with updated security features will begin to roll out Tuesday [12/01/2020] throughout the state. Because of the update, though, the physical licenses will be issued from a secure production faculty used by more than half of the states throughout the country, spokesperson William Connolly said in a statement Monday. ..... The Central Issuance Facility is considered industry best practice, providing greater fraud protection and security for individuals' personal information and protecting the from identity theft, Connolly said.
..... This changes means that customers at MVC location will be given an interim license because their actual license will no longer be printed while they wait. That license will be mailed. Officials expect that this will make for quicker transactions, because the current printers are outdated and frequently over heat and break down.

"Our commitment to producing secure, reliable documents requires constant updates to our security, and we're grateful for the support and counsel of Director [Jared] Maples and the Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness," said sue Fulton, chief administrator of the Motor Vehicle Commission.
