Dems: Deportation deals cost taxpayers millions

The 30-page report was released by Senator Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, the top Democrat on the Foreign Relations Committee, and also signed by committee Democrat Chris Coons of Delaware, Chris Murphy of Connecticut, Tim Kaine of Virgina, Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, Cory Booker of New Jersey, Tammy Duckworth, of Illinois and Jacky Rosen of Nevada.

But the administration has not provided detailed information about its plans or arrangements with third countries to accept migrants removed from the United States but unable to return to their home countries.
..... Reuters reported in January [2026] about people who are deported to their home countries despite fear of political persecution in their homelands. That included a woman form Sierra Leone first sent to Ghana and then forcibly returned to their home country from there despite a U.S. judge ahivng granted her request to go elsewhere.
