Detainees killed in ICE facility attack in Dallas

    ..... Two detainees at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Dallas, Texas, were killed and another was critically injured in sniper shooting from a nearby rooftop the morning of September 24, [2025] officials said.

    Officers responded to calls at about 6:40 AM. local time and determined that a shooter fired at the ICE building from an adjacent building, the Dallas police Department said in a statement. the suspected shooter also died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said. Officials have not identified the shooter.
    ..... "The shooter fired indiscriminately at the ICE building, including at a van in  the sallyport where the victims were shot. Three detainees were shot," the Department of Homeland Security said in an update. No ICE agents or other law enforcement members were injured, officials said.

    The FBI is involved with the investigation, agency officials announced. investigators found rounds near the suspected shooter's body that had messages "that are anti-ICE in nature," said Joseph Rothrock, special agent in charge of the Dallas FBI field office.
    ..... The FBI is investigating the incident as an act of targeted violence, Rothrock said, adding, "This is just the most recent example of this type of attack."
    ..... FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed in a spot on X that an "initial review of the evidence shows an ideological motive behind this attack."
    ..... He posted images of shell casings located at the scene, including one inscribed with the phrase "ANTI ICE."

    ..... Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson asked people to "be patient" as investigators work to identify a motive.
    ..... "Lets be patient, let;s remain calm and let our partners, our law enforcement partners, our police department do their job" he said at a news conference on September 24. [2025] "This is an active investigation. There's still a  lot of unanswered questions. And I want to encourage all of you to exercise a little bit of restraint."

    The Dallas ICE field office that was targeted issued a shelter-in-place order just last month [08/2025] after a man approached the building and claimed to have an explosive device in his backpack, officials said. The Departed of Homeland Security said that on August 25 [2025] a man approached the ICE facility and showed a security officer what he claimed to be a "detonator" on his wrist. A bomb squad was dispatched to the scene and local law enforcement officers arrested suspect Batton Dean Wilkinson, 36. 
    ..... ICE facilities nationwide have been the site of protests, which at times have turned violent, with clashes breaking out between federal officers and demonstrators. White House officials say  there's been a 700% increase in assaults on immigration agents amid the Trump administration's expansive deportation campaign.
    ..... Government officials in the aftermath of the shooting said that attacks  against the immigration agency "must stop."
    ..... "While we don't know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop," Noem said.
