Driver crashes truck, downs utility pole while reportedly fleeing ICE in Teaneck

..... A man crashed his pickup truck, snapping a utility pole, while fleeing form U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Teaneck [NJ] on July 26, [2026] police said.

Teaneck police received multiple 911 calls shortly before 11:30 AM. about the crash of a vehicle into a utility pole at Queen Anne Road and Walraven Drive. Police chief Andrew McGurr said one of the callers reported being an officer with Immigration and Customs enforcement. Responding police found two damage vehicles and a snapped utility pole with wires lying on the roadway. ICE agents were also at the scene, McGurr said in a news release.
..... Authorities determined that the driver of a 2017toyota Tacoma was going west on Walrave Drive in an attempt to flee pursuing ICE agents. As detailed in the release, the driver crashed his vehicle into a 2026 Nissan Rouge hat was parked neat a utility pole on the north side of Walraven Drive.
..... The Nissan was pushed into the pole, which snapped, causing wires to fall onto the road and other vehicles.

The driver complained of head pain a as result of the impact, McGurr said. He was evaluated at the scene and refused further medical assistance.
..... In an emailed statement to NorthJersey.com , a spokespeople for the Department of Homeland Security identified the driver as Luis Angel Clfuentes Rodas of Guatemala.
..... "He illegally entered the U.S. at an unknown time and place. All of his claims will be heard by a Justice Department immigration judge, and he will receive full due process," the statement said.
..... No other injuries were reported in the crash, McGurr said.
..... However, the release said, one of the parked vehicles on which the wires landed was occupied. the occupant had to wait in the vehicle for about an hour until PSE&G representative arrived and restored safety.
