..... Former New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez will now report to prison in late June [2025] after a federal judge assented to a request that he be able to attend his stepdaughter's wedding.
.....
Menendez, found guilty on federal corruption charges last summer [2024] and sentenced earlier this year, [2025]will report to prison on June 17 [2025] instead of June 6, [2025] U.S. District Court Judge Sidney Stein ruled Friday, [05/09/2025] noting that no further adjournments will be granted.
..... The wedding is scheduled for June 14 [2025] in Massachusetts and the date was set more than a year ago, according to a letter submitted by Menendez's attorney.
.....
Adam Fee, Menendez's attorney, requested the delay in a letter to Stein and noted that Menendez wanted to be able to escort his wife, Nadine Arslanian Menedez, who was also found guilty on federal corruption charges and is suffering from breast cancer.
.... As the court is aware, Nadine's medical condition - and additional impending surgery - makes it hard for her to travel alone," Fee wrote in his request.
..... Allowing Senator Menendez to accompany his wife to their daughter's wedding would alleviate this hardship and permit the family to be together for a meaningful (and perhaps final) gathering before the commencement of Senator Menendez's lengthy custodial sentence."
..... Arslanian Menendez's diagnosis delayed her trial multiple times before it began this year [2025] at the Daniel Patrick Moynihan U.S. courthouse in lower Manhattan.
..... The request came weeks after Stein denied Menendez and his co-defendants bail pending appeal.
.....
New Jersey businessmen Fred Daibes and Wael Hana are scheduled to report to prison on May 19 [2025] while their appeals are pending.
What was Menendez charged with?
..... The federal indictment against all four co-defendants was first unsealed in September 2023 and was updated with superseding indictments three times - October of that year [2023] and in January and March 2024.
..... It alleged that Menendez, his wife, and three New Jersey businessmen, Hanan, Daibes and Jose Uribe, were part of a bribery scheme. Menendez and his wife allegedly received, among other things, cash, gold bars and a luxury car in exchange for the use of his political influence.
..... Uribe initially entered a not guilty plea but began cooperating with prosecutors. He changed his plea to guilty in march 2024 and testified at the nine-week trial last summer [2024] for Menendez, Daibes and Hana as well as Arslanian Menendez's four-week trial this spring. [2025]
..... Menendez was sentenced to 11 years in prison, Hana more that eight years and Daibles seven years.
..... Daibes was fined $1.75 million; Hana was fined $1.3 million. all three are appealing their cases. Arslanian Menendez was found guilty on 15 counts after a separate trial concluded April 21. [2025]
..... She is scheduled to be sentenced in June, [2025] but has a pending request to adjourn her sentencing until September. [2025]
