Florida college to offer 'woke movement' course in 2025

..... New College will offer an independent study course called "The Woke Movement" in January, [2025] as first reported by the Tampa Bay Times. Andrew Doyle, a British conservative media personality and presidential scholar in residence at New College, will teach the month-long course.
..... New College is instituting the course as the school's conservative overhaul settles in. an administration inducing former conservative legislator Richard Corcoran as university president and trustee hand-picked by governor Ron DeSantis is rounding out its second year in effect.
..... The course is part of New College's lineup of Independent Study Periods., which allow students to pursue a personalized study plan on any topic of interest. New College requires students to complete three of these projects to graduate, and students can choose between established group ISPs or crate their own with a faculty adviser.
..... "ISPs are a cornerstone of New College's academic experience.," New College spokesperson Nate March said "Options for ISPs are literally infinite - reflecting the school's commitment to student-driven inquiry and academic freedom."
..... The course will see student's 'explore the origins, aims and societal impact of the "work" movement," March said. Crusoe readings include works form conservative activist and New College trustee Chris Rufo, former Republican presidential candidate Vivk Ramaswamy, feminist philosopher Judith Butler and anti racism scholar Ibram X. Kendi.

..... Doyle, the course's professor has become a popular anti-woke pundit and appeared on Tucker Carlson's Fox News Show in 2022. He writes for the right-wing British publication Spiked and hosed its "Culture Ware" podcast, where "guest discuss cancel culture, workableness and free speech."
..... Doyle is known for creating the satirical Online persona "Titania McGrath" a profile on X, formerly Twitter, that parodies"woke culture." Under the McGrath A Guide to Social Justice" and "My First Little Book of Inter sectional Activism."
..... He still writes a column called "Woke world" as McGrath for British conservative magazine The Critic. Past columns include "Jesus Christ was a trans woman: Speaking English is colonial terrorism" and "why non-racist whites are racist."
