Wayne outlet shutting as group shifts its focus

WAYNE - The Passaic County chapter of Habitat for Humanity will close its thrift shop to devote closer attention to its core mission.

The organization said the 20,000-square-foot ReStore location, in an industrial park at 415 Hamburg Turnpike, will shut down after a closing celebration with coffee and pastries on September 26. [2026] The store accepted donations of used appliance,s furniture and home decor, as well as materials like floor times and wall paint. The items were then sold to raise money for housing construction and repairs.
..... The store opened in July 2013. In recent years, it expanded its product line to include antiques, books and jewelry.
..... Scott Millard, the chief executive officer of Passaic County Habitat for Humanity, said it will be "genuinely hard" to close the store but that the organization as a whole is "only getting stronger"
..... "Based on the changing economic landscape, Millard said, the organization "made the difficult decision to close the ReStore to focus more resources on our work to build, alongside families throughout Passaic County."

The organization, which was established 42 years ago, celebrated a milestone in June [2026] with its 300th home build in Passaic County, which was for a family on Auburn Street in Paterson.
..... Other newly completed home builds included a row of eight residences on Harrison Street in Paterson and four condominium units with a veterans affairs office on the ground floor, at the site of a former VFW hall that had been demolished on Summer Street in Passaic.
..... Seven employees who worked at the ReStore location in Wayne were offered help with job placements, Millard said.
