..... Immigration and Customs Enforcement opened a satellite office for its legal division in Roseland "earlier this month," [02/2026] said property manager Craig Padover, who confirmed that the agency inked a lease for a commercial spade at 5 Becker Farm Road during an interview with NorthJersey.com on February 20. [2026]
..... No immigration enforcement operations were being coordinated at the site, Padover said. "It is not and will not be a field office," he said. "There is no operational component at all."
..... He had no knowledge of why the ICE law department required a local outpost in the Essex County area, and he declined to divulge the lease's term, adding that he was "not at liberty to disclose all the information" on the deal. Padover also would not say whether his firm was constrained by a non-disclosure agreement with ICE or its parent agency, the Department of Homeland Security.
..... "The most I can tell you is it;s shorter than the average office lease," hes aid.
.... ICE did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
..... The Record/NorthJersey.com confirmed the legal office's opening the same day local officials in nearby Roxbury announced Homeland Security;s long-rumored acquisition of a warehouse along Route 46, with the intention to reopen the site as a detention center for undocumented migrants. Elected officials oppose the alleged deal for the warehouse, which was brokered by a private seller, the Roxbury Township council said.
..... However, the agency continued to deny the purchase, which Forster confusion among residents and elected officials - similar to inconsistent statements regarding real estate deals in New York and Tennessee, reported News 12 and the Tennessee Lookout.
..... ICE currently houses detainees at two other sites in the area: Newark's Delaney Hall and the Elizabeth Contract Detention Facility.
