..... A former Tenafly councilman and his son, arrested on child pron charges have seen their releases revoked.
..... Jeffrey and Steven Grossman were originally arrested on charges of second-degree possession of child pornography in October 2023.
..... Steven Grossman was arrested a second time, in October 2025, and charged with third-degree possession of child sexual abuse material after an investigation found he "used the Internet to view, download and possess more than 100 digital files depicting nude and/or sexually explicit prepubescent and pubescent children."
..... At their initial detentions hearing, the two individuals were released under strict home detention, subject to a list of conditions, including refraining from committing new offenses and not accessing the Internet on any devise.
..... Also, their access to their front and back year was restricted from 8 to 9:30 AM and 2 to 3:30 PM. because of school arrival and dismissal.
..... But during Steven Grossman;s hearing on October 23, [2025] Assistant Prosecutor Gary Donatello argued before Judge Marc Ramundo that the new charges and failure to comply with previous release conditions warranted his detention.
..... Steven Grossman's attorney said his client has appeared at every hearing and is not a danger to the community. He also argued that the images found on the Google Drive related to the new charges were years old and were not found by the Prosecutor's Office during their investigation in 2023.
..... Ramundo said Steven Grossman may not be sexually abusing children but that viewing child chronography contributes to the abuse.
..... "Economics is a supply and demand that with each click, it's another crime, it's another child," Ranuydo said. "It's a demand which is fueling these sex traffickers to supply that content and that material, and, unfortunately, when there's a demand, someone will supply it. That's the danger to society, the danger to the community, this global community. It's a global crime that affects every hoe, every community and every society."
..... Jeffrey Grossman's release was revoked on November 6 [2025] for accessing the Internet. His attorney, James Maynard, argued that it was an emotional lapse when he trying to support his son at his October 17 [2025] hearing.
..... Maynard argued before Judge Nina Remson that his client understood that being on Zoom for his son's hearing was wrong but as not out of disrespect for the court.
..... "Mr. Grossman was not browsing social media. He was not seeking prohibited content. he was not debating monitoring," Mauynard said.
..... Maynard called it a "narrow human moment, not lawlessness," and a technically.
..... Donatello said there were numerous things Jeffery Grossman could have done to view the hearing.
..... Remson agreed with Dontatell, noting that it was "troubling" that he had an Internet-ready device so readily at his disposal.
..... "He flagrantly flaunted the violation by getting on the court Zoom to observe his co-defendant;s detention hearing," Remson said. "Hearing counsel's attorney to minimize this violation are equally concerning, because that sends a message to the defendant that such conduct is acceptable. it is not acceptable and is a blatant and knowing violation, of the conditions of pretrial release."
..... Both men are scheduled to appear before Remson on December 2 [2025] for a status conference.
