..... Since October, [2020] the Motor Vehicle Commission has shut local offices about 100 times due to the coronavirus.
..... The closures are an inconvenience, spokesperson William Connolly said, but have "successfully protected both customers and state workers."
..... If an employee tests positive, the agency will close for a two-week period to ensure the safety of the rest of the staff and employees.

MVC SHIFTING ONLINE:

..... By now, Connolly said, about 75% of transactions are handled Online, including the majority of license and registration renewals. he said the sift to Online resulted in "millions of fewer visits to an agency" and those transactions that do need to be done on site, are mostly by appointment.
..... The MVC has also been adding resources Online for first-time drivers, such as a video in English and Spanish with captions to make the process smoother and more user-friendly.
..... "We are hopeful that as vaccinations increase, the threat of COVID-19 will abate, but we will always maintain rigorous safety standards to protect public health," Connolly said. "We will continue to monitor the trajectory of the virus, delivering motor vehicle services as safety and effectively as possible during a pandemic, while moving as many transactions as possible out of agencies.
..... "We have strict protocols in place to prevent the spread of the virus, developed in consultation with state and local health authorities, suing CDC guidance," Connolly said. "We quarantine exposed employees and close agencies when we don't have enough staff available to safely operate."
