NJ joins alliance committed to expanding reproductive freedom

..... New Jersey already a national leader in reproductive health care, is teaming up with 19 other states to create a multi-state Reproductive Freedom Alliance that will look to expand access to abortion and other forms of reproductive health.
..... Governor Phil Murphy is part of a nonpartisan coalition of 20 governors "committed to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom in their states," a statement from the alliance said.
..... The statement went on to say they plan to "work together to strengthen reproductive freedom in the face of an unprecedented assault on abortion access and other forms of reproductive health care by states hostile to abortion rights and judges who are advancing their ideological agenda."

Who will fund the alliance?

..... The group will be funded by the California Wellness Foundation, dedicated to improving health and wellness, and the Rosenberg Foundation, as advocacy organization for underrepresented groups.

Murphy's remarks

..... Murphy said in a statement that "New Jersey has continued to protect and expand a woman's fundamental right to reproductive choice."

"A midst a continual assault from a radical minority intent on ignoring facts, public sentiment, and decades of judicial precedent, we work to expand and preserve reproductive freedom fro women everywhere across our country and for the dedicated health care professional who deliver this care," he said.

What New Jersey has done

..... Like many states, New Jersey codified reproductive health protections on a local level. Legislators went a step further by prohibiting people who receive or perform an abortion in New Jersey form being extradited to a state that restricts or criminalizes the procedure and even barring public agencies in New Jersey from providing information to help in investigations by states that criminalize abortion.
..... People in New Jersey can already obtain various forms of birth control at pharmacies without a prescription. The state also requires health benefits plans that use the state market to include comprehensive abortion insurance coverage.
