New Jersey's MVC starts offering vehicle registration display on digital platforms

..... The state's Motor Vehicle Commission said Monday [03/27/2023] that it will allow drivers to begin displaying vehicle registration on digital platforms.

Legislation making this possible was singed by Governor Phil Murphy in November 2021. the statute also allows for the direct renewal of leased vehicle registrations in New Jersey.
How does digital registration work?
..... Acting Chief Administrator Latrecia Littes-Floyd said in a statement that paper registrations will still be "issued and recognized as valid" but will no longer be New Jersey vehicle owners' only option.

Now, when customers renew or duplicate their registration Online, registration documents will be emailed to the customer as PDF files. those documents will serve as a valid registration by law. they can be printed out, saved or downloaded for display as an electronic image on smartphones, tablets or computers.
..... The agency will also mail a paper hard copy of the vehicle registration card to the driver's address.

Either the paper or electronic from of registration can be displayed or provided to law enforcement, the courts or any other entity that requires the presentation of a valid New Jersey vehicle registration, officials said.
Registration for leased cars

The new law also requires registration renewal applications for lease vehicles to be sent directly to lessees, instead of the lessor or vehicle owner, Additionally, lessees are no longer required to present a power of attorney from lessors to renew a leased vehicle registration, enabling the direct renewal by the lessee - Online, by mail or by appointment.
..... There are more than 820,000 drivers of leased vehicles in New Jersey, according to the agency. The renewal changes are effective beginning with registrations expiring in April. [2023]
