New Jersey sees huge gain in voter registration

The new report from the state Division of Elections comes after a month that saw major events galvanize the Republican and Democratic presidential campaigns. Former President Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt. President Joe Biden, meanwhile, withdrew from his campaign and p0 along with many other Democrats - quickly pledged support to Vice President Kamala Harris for the party's nomination.
..... July [2024] saw Republican rolls in New Jersey jump 7,165, while 14,604 more unaffiliated voters registered.
..... Democrats meanwhile added just 1,040 voters, after a June [2024] that saw them add 24,714> June however, was an even bigger month for Republicans, who added 27,170 registered voters as the number of unaffiliated voters in the state fell by 37,140.
..... The most voter growth in July came in three of the state's largest four counties, Bergen, Essex and Hudson. Each added more than 2,000 voters. Only Camden County saw its number of registered voters fall during the month.
..... Prior to July, the largest monthly gain in the number of registered voters was in June, when the state added 14,446 voters. New Jersey added about 87,500 voters in the first seven months of 2024, in average of about 12,000 per month.
..... Since the last presidential cycle in August 2020, the total number of registered voters in New Jersey had grown by more than 386,000, state records show. Democrats have added 78,168 to the rolls. There are 100,564 mere unaffiliated voters, and Republican ranks have grown by 207,252.

Voter.org representatives said there website registered roughly 28,500 new voters in the two days after Biden suspended his campaign and endorsed Harris, including more than 1,300 in New Jersey. The two-day growth in new voters nationwide was the most through Voter.org since Taylor Swift urged er followers to register in September 2023, officials said.
