Pizzeria completes first drone delivery in Northeast United States

..... Three miniature pizzas flew through the sky on April 20, [2026] as popular thin-crust joint The Columbia Inn and the Dexa drone delivery service joined forces to complete the first autonomous drone pizza delivery in the Northeast United States.
..... Taking off from Montville, the drone flew 3 miles at a height of 400 feet before landing at the home of a Morris county resident.
..... The personal pies - two cheese and one pepperoni - were delivered in a matter of minutes.
..... "We're so excited, because this is the first real step toward fully autonomous delivery," Columbia Inn manager and partner Fabio Antonio said. "The drone is showing you how we can get hot pizza to you faster, cleaner and without needing a driver. The future of delivery is driverless. The technology is here."

The pizza flights took place as part of New Jersey Pizza alliance's xPizza Day, an event dedicated to the technology of "pizza's future." throughout the afternoon, a PizzaBot served fresh pies to spectators, while autonomous carts demonstrated how takeout orders could be transported down busy city streets. In the middle of the festival zone stood Columbia Inn's famed cyber Pizza Truck, which Antonio hopes will soon complete the first driverless pizza delivery ("regulations," rather than technology, are the last hurdle obstructing the latter).
..... The two-minute flight, however, was the main attraction, as the high-speed pizza drone reached maximum highs in seconds.
..... "We're putting ourselves right at the forefront of delivery technology," Antonio said of the aviation. "Exactly like we're set to be the first ones delivering pizza with no drivers whatsoever (on the road, via the Cyber Pizza Truck). Tesla's paving the way, and we're excited to bring that same autonomous magic to your pizza." From the streets to the clouds, he assured, "The future is going to be delicious."
