LOS ANGELES - The Trump administration announced changes and hinted at more National Guard deployment June 11 [2025] as protests continued to reverberate from Los Angeles across the country.

U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said at least nine people faced federal charges related to the demonstrations, including two men who were charged with throwing firebombs. More charges are expected, Essayli said: "We're coming after all these people."

Los Angeles police said they arrested 225 people on the first night of Mayor Karen Bass' curfew triggered by sometimes rallies against mitigation enforcement raids and the escalation of military presence in the nation's second-largest city. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is following a directive from President Donald Trump to find immigrants without legal status. The LA protests were relatively peaceful when they began on June 6 [2025] but escalated into scenes of chaos, when electric vehicles lit aflame, vandalism, large clouds of tear gas and clashes between law enforcement and demonstrators. The curfew covers one square mile of he sprawling city. Trump has called the protest "lawless riots" and ordered 4,000 National Guard Troops and 700 Marines into the city. The White House was unyielding "America voted for mass depredation," Stephen Miller, trump;s deputy chief of staff for policy, wrote on social media. "Violent insurrectionists, and the politicians who enable them, are trying to overthrow the results of the election."
..... The Guard troops and Marines will not conduct arrests but they might detain demonstration temporarily while waiting for law enforcement to arrive, National Guard Major General Scott Sherman said at a briefing June 11. [2025]

It's really about protecting federal facilities and federal personnel as they do their jobs," Sherman said.
...... the personnel deployed by Trump,p are receiving two days of training on civil unrest that includes crowd control and protection of property, Sherman said. There are currently 2,000 Guard members on duty "performing gravitons," he said. Another 2,000 will begin their training June 12, [2025] Sherman said.
..... The 700 marines are at naval Weapons station Seal Beach: Sherman said he couldn't say when they would be seen on the streets.
..... The deployment of Nation la Guard troops could expand beyond Los Angeles, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said at a congressional hearing June 11 [2025] in Washington. "part of it is getting ahead of a problem, so that if in other places, it there are other riots in places where law enforcement offices are threatened, we would have the capability to surge the National Guard there if necessary," he said. Hegseth also took a shot at California Governor Gavin Newsom. California has sued Trump and the Department of Defense, seeking to block the deployment of federal troops. A hearing is set for June 12. [2025] "thankfully, in most of those states the need for it, supports it, mobilizes it for himself or herself," Hegseth said. "In California, unfortunately, the governor wants to play politics."

The governor is widely viewed as a 2028 candidate for president. California sued Trump and the Department of Defense on June 9, [2025] seeking to block the deployment of federal troops. A judge has set a arraign for the matter for June 12. [2025] "this brazen abuse of power by a sitting president inflamed a combustible situation, putting our people, our officers and even our Nation la Guard at risk," Newsom said in the video.

Demonstrations against immigration raids have erupted in other cities.

Hundreds rallied near New York City's main immigration court on June 10. [2025] Tensions eventually flared and 86 people were taken into custody, with 34 people being charged and 52 issued criminal court summonses, according to the New York Police Department.
..... A demonstration at the Colorado state capitol drew hundreds of protesters who marched peacefully through the downtown areal CRP News reported. Tensions escalated between law enforcement and a group that splintered off form the main demonstration, leading to at least 17 arrest on charges including obstruction streets and assault.
..... In Philadelphia , more than 150 protesters gathered at the federal detention center, local media outlets reported. The Philadelphia Police Department said protesters at one point ignored demands to disperse and grew increasingly unruly, leading to more than a dozen arrests and several injuries.
..... Not all rallies were marred by arrests and clashes between police and demonstrators. Between 200 and 300 people protested ICE raids in downtown Columbus, Ohio, crossing in front of the local police headquarters and city hall without incident.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican and ally of Trump, said June 10 [2025] he would deploy the Nation la Guard in preparation for planned protests to "ensure peace & Order," he wrote on social media. Protests against mitigation and other Trump policies are planned in at least 1,500 communities across the country on June 14, [2025] the day t4eh president hood a military parade in Washington and celebrates his birthday.
..... The rallies, named "No Kings Day," are expected to be the largest and most widespread since Trump took office. Organizers say a core principle of the protests will be :a commitment to nonviolent action." They discourage participants form bringing weapons.
