State launches new 'See Something, Say Something' campaign

..... Folks sitting in traffic may have noticed the unsettling messaging on signs along the state's major highways.
..... A new "See Something, Say Something: public safety campaign was launched on September 1. [2023] I on variable message signs, the ones on highways that have messages that can be changed, throughout the state, according to the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness.
..... The initiative aims to remind drivers to "remain vigilant and report potential threats and suspicious activity related to terrorisms or other criminal activity," the agency said in a release.
..... The message will run until February 17 [2024] on nearly 200 signs along the New Jersey Turnpike and interstates such as 78,105 and 280, as well as Route 440.
..... Agency Director Laurie Doran noted that the "public is one of our first and best lines of defense in the fight against terrorism."
..... The federal Department of Homeland Security has a national "IF You See Something, Say something" Awareness day on September 25.
..... Officials say anyone who notices suspicious activity should immediately report it to local law enforcement or to the state's counter terrorism Watch Desk by calling 866-4-SAFE-NJ or emailing tips@njohsp.gov.
