President vows to 'obliterate' facilities if strait isn't opened

..... The president took to social media to pressure the Middle Eastern nations over the global shipping route, which Iran has effectively close since the U.S.-Israeli strikes began on February 28. [2026] It's one of the world's most important oil routes and ferries roughly 20% of the world's oil products annually.

"If Iran doesn't FULLY OPEN, WIHTOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 hours from the exact point in time, the Untied States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS STARTING WITH TEH BIGGEST ONE FIRST!" In response, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, speaker of Iran's parliament, said if the United States does strike Iran's power plants, Iran will destroy critical infrastructure and oil facilities in the region in an "irreversible manner." Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya military commend headquarters said on March 22 [2026] that Iran would also launch retaliatory attacks on all U.S. energy, information technology and desalination infrastructure in the region.

U.S. gas hits $3.94 per gallon

Israel strikes bridges in Lebanon

Democrats criticize costs

..... Bessent called the ask "supplemental" and ruled out pushing for any tax increases to fund the war. When asked about whether ti's coming to an end soon, Bessent answered by telling host Kristen Welker that "sometimes you have to escalate to deescalate."
..... Santor Chris Murphy, D-Connecticut, responded to Bessent's comments on the same program, suggesting Democrats may attempt to sue the Pentagon's expected request for billions more in war funding to pressure the administration to end the conflict.
..... "We need to end this war," Murphy said. "The only way you're going to get prices down here in the United States, the only way you're going to bring peace to the region, is by ending this war."
..... The funding ask faces stiff opposition in Congress. with Democrats and some Republicans questioning the need after large defense appropriations last year.
