..... President Donald Trump is nominating interim U.S, Attorney for the District of New jersey Alina Habba for a full four-year term, the White House announced July 1. [2025]
..... Habba was named U.S. attorney for New Jersey in March [2025] by Trump, who called the appointment "a great pressure" and praised her as someone who "will fight tirelessly to secure a legal system that is both fair and just for the wonderful people of New Jersey."
.... Habba made headlines when she charged Newark Mayor Ras Baraka for allegedly trespassing at Delaney Hall, a privately run federal immigration detention center in Newark. [NJ]
..... those charged were later dropped, with Habba saying a statement, "After extensive consideration, we have agreed to dismiss Mayor Baraka's misdemeanor charge of trespass for the sake of moving forward." However, in the same social media post, Habba announced that she had brought charges against New Jersey Representative LaMonica McIver for allegedly "assaulting, impeding and interfering with law enforcement" at Delaney Hall.
..... As her 120-day term nears its end, Habba will need to secure a full-term appointment to continue serving as the U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey.

Who is Alina Habba?

..... Habba, 41, has been one of Trump's most visible legal defenders in recent years, gaining national attention while representing him in several civil and criminal cases.
..... She was named counsel to Trump's Save America PAC in 2023, later joining his inner legal circle as "counselor to the president."
