Uber, Lyft reach new partnership with state over rides

..... Governor Phil Murphy announced a partnership with Uber and Lyft on Wednesday [08/08/2021] to provide free and discounted rides to New Jersey residents who lost a personal vehicle during Ida.

Over the next two weeks, residents who need help accessing essential services and lost a vehicle can text MJDARIDE to 898-211 to request a Lyft or Uber ride. Those without smart phones can dial 211 to do the same.
..... Murphy said that in the aftermath of Ida, "we must come together as a community and pick one another up," adding, "I want to tank both Uber and Lyft for their generous offer of transportation for New Jerseyas in need."

..... The remnants of Hurricane Ida brought widespread destruction to New Jersey, leaving parts of the state as certified disaster zones.
..... "Nobody should have to worry after a natural disaster how they will get to essential places like the grocery store and medical appointments," said Lyft Social Impact Director Lisa Boyd in a statement.
