Wayne schools chief announces retirement after 11 years

WAYNE - The Board of Education is about to embark on a search for a new chief of schools after an announcement for the past decade, will retire next summer. [2025]

Toback, 55, the onstage-seving superintendent in the history of the K-12 district, said he was proud to have contributed stability when the school system needed it most. he will remain in his potions through July, [2025] helping his successor with the transition before the next school year. [2025-2026]
..... In the seven years before Toback was appointed in June 2014, the district went through a dizzying number of superintendents - six in all, including five in interim posts. "That leads to a lack of continuity," he said Monday [11/25/2024] and :U think the district felt the effects of it."
..... He said the district is well-positioned for success. "The face that we've all been working together for so many years," he added, "says a lot about our sense of teamwork."
..... Toback, who holds a doctorate in education leadership form Rutgers University, is in the third year of a five-year contract that is due to expire in June2027. He is paid a salary of $265,225.

He manages an annual spending plan of $190.8 million.
..... A native of Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, Toback started as a mathematic teacher at Senator Frank R Lautenberge School Number 6 in Paterson. In September 1992. Stints followed in Fort Lee, Haledon, Leonia and Sparta Township and as superintend for the Hoboken K-12 district.

The Ywaye district has an enrollment of 7,654 in 15 schools, including the Early Childhood Center, at Preakness School - a highlight for the Toback administration when it opened for 3- and 4-yearold students in September, 2020.

Then came the triumph kicked off full-day kindergarten.

Donald Pavlak Jr., the school board president, said Toback is a "tireless advocate" for the well-being of staff and students and that his commitment to fiscal responsibility has ensured the wise allocation of resources for facility upgrades and for modern learning spaces.

Pavlak said trustees were "deeply grateful" for his years of dedication to the district.
..... "Dr Toback's leadership has been truly remarkable," he said. "He arrived at a time of uncertainty, and he steered our district toward an era of unprecedented achievement. his vision has profoundly impacted our schools, our students and our community."
..... Pavlak said trustees will engage a search firm in the next few weeks to assist in finding a replacement for Toback. he said they were reviewing proposals.
..... Toback said he plans to enjoy an active retirement, possibly by serving as an interim superintend or by starting a company to help school boards recruit superintendent candidates.
