Recalled port products distributed in NJ, USDA says

More than 1,500 pounds of a ready-to-eat pork products, some of which were distributed to food service locations in New Jersey, are being recalled due to a potential listeria contamination, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced on September 8. [2026]
..... The approximately 1,513 pounds of pork products were produced at Est.1937L Bome SRL in Italy on May 21 and imported to the United States on varies dates in July, [2026] the FSIS said. The affected products were distributed by Prime Line Distributors Incorporated in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Ferrarini ISA Incorporated in Hoboken.
..... The recall was designated as a Class 1, which is described by the USDA as a health hazard situation where there is a "reasonable probably" that the use of the affected product will cause serious, adverse helaht consequences or death.
..... As detailed by the FSIS, the problem was discovered during routine import re-inspection testing when a product sample was confirmed positive for Listeria monocytogenes, or Lm, which can cause listeriosis.
..... As of Sunday September 6, [2026] there had been no confirmed reports of illness due to consumption of the recalled products, the FSIS said, adding, "Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a health care provider."

..... Various weight cardboard cases containing two pieces of individually vacuumed packed "PRIME LINE DISTRIBUTORS, INCORPATED GUANCIALE PORK JOWL PRODUCTS OF ITALY" with "LOT: 263311US" and "BEST IF USE BY DATE: 05.16.27" printed on the label.
..... Various weight individually vacuumed packaged 'GUANCIALE PROK JOWL PRODUCT OF ITALY" with 'LOT: 263311US" and "BEST IF USE BY: 05.16.27 printed on the label. The product has an additional label with 'DOK GUANCIALE" on the packaging.
* Ferrarnii USA Incorporated:
..... Serious weight cardboard cases containing tow pieces of individually vacuumed packed "GUANCIALE PORK JPOWL PRODUCT OF ITALY" with "LOT: 263311US" and "BEST IF USE BY DATE: 05.16.27 printed on the label.
..... Various weight individually vacuumed packaged "FERRARINI GUANCIALE DRY-CURED PORT JOWL" with "LOT: 263311US" and "BEST IF USE BY DATE: 05.16.27" PRINTED ON THE LABEL.
..... The affected products bear the establishment number "IT 1937 L CE" inside the Italian mark of inspection or printed on the case label.

Where they sold in New Jersey?

The Ferrarini USA Incorporated items were shipped to distributors and food service location's in New Jersey and seven other states, California, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Michigan, New York and Texas, the FSIS said. The Prime Line Distributors Incorporated items were shipped to food service and retail location's in Florida.

What should consumers do?

..... The FSIS said it is concerned that some products may be in food service and retail refrigerators and freezers. Food service and retail locations are urged not to serve or sell the products.

What is listeriosis?

..... Consumption of food contaminated with Lm can cause listeriosis, which is described by the FSIS as a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns.
..... Symptoms of listeriosis included fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, lost of balance and convulsions, sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms, the FSIS said. An invasive infection spreader beyond the gastrointestinal tract.
..... In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn, the FSIS reported.
..... Serious and sometimes fatal infections can occur in older adults and people with weakened immune systems.
..... Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics, the FSIS said.
..... Those in high-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within tow months of eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell their health care provider that they ate the contaminated food.
